Our Top Tips for a Fitter You!

Updated: Aug 31, 2021

Sometimes it’s hard to keep up your fitness plans, life gets in the way and other demands on your time and headspace just take over. As we reach the end of the year, it’s a great time to look back at where you’ve come from and what you’ve achieved and also to assess if there is anything you want to do differently next year.

I asked my wonderful fitness instructors for their top tip on getting fit and staying fit. Here are mine to start with (I of course, couldn’t stick to just one!)

Gemma’s Top Tips

  1. Warm up properly – all our instructors build a good warm-up into the classes but if you’re exercising at home or going for a run, you really must include it too

  2. Keep hydrated – you can lose up to 1.4 litres of sweat during an hour’s exercise so it’s vital to replenish that fluid in your body

  3. Find something you love – if you’ve plateaued and don’t feel you’re reaching your goals, why not vary the type of exercise you do so you don’t get bored

  4. Challenge yourself – it’s easy to get complacent when you’re familiar with the moves, next time push yourself to stretch that little bit further, swim an extra length or beat your PB round the park

  5. Don’t make it a punishment – you don’t have to get dirty, be shouted at or vomit for the exercise to be good for you!

Tina’s Top Tip

There’s nothing worse than ‘going through the motions’ with your exercise, you won’t get the best out of it and you won’t see any benefits either. Try out different classes or forms of exercise and when you find the one you that thrills and excites you, just enjoy it to the max!

Claire’s Top Tip

This year, I’m all about finding a sustainable lifestyle that works for you and isn’t a chore. Steer clear of faddy diets and exercise regimes and make lifestyle choices that are a real investment in yourself. It’s not selfish to look after yourself, it helps you to cope better with everything life throws at you mentally and physically. Oh and factor in time for sleep – it’s so important!

Abbie’s Top Tip

Make fitness a non-negotiable part of your weekly routine, schedule it in your diary and stick to it just as you would an important meeting. Lay your kit out the night before so that have no excuse to miss that early morning HIIT workout. Also, take a mental note of how you feel after a great workout and use that as motivation the next time your resolve is wavering.
