How does Arthritis in the hips affect exercise and what exercise is best?

Arthritis in the hips can make exercise challenging and may cause pain and stiffness in the joint. However, exercise is still important for maintaining joint flexibility, strength, and overall health. Here are some tips on how to exercise with arthritis in the hips:

Low-impact exercises: Low-impact exercises such as walking or swimming are good options for people with hip arthritis. These exercises help improve joint mobility and cardiovascular health without putting too much stress on the hips.

Range-of-motion exercises: Range-of-motion exercises such as hip rotations or hip flexion/extension can help improve hip mobility and reduce stiffness. These exercises involve moving the joint through its full range of motion, but should be done slowly and without excessive force.

Strengthening exercises: Strengthening the muscles around the hip joint can help provide support and reduce the risk of injury.

Gentle stretching: Gentle stretching exercises can help improve flexibility and reduce tension in the hip muscles.

Avoid high-impact exercises: High-impact exercises such as running or jumping can put excessive stress on the hip joint and exacerbate arthritis symptoms. It's best to avoid these types of exercises if you have hip arthritis.
